Instructions
- Begin making this just prior to the waxing moon so that the darkness around your life slowly takes on that wonderful silvery glow of positive change! Place the tea bags with the ginger, lemon and orange slices in the water and warm. Slowly add the sugar so it dissolves completely. Turn off the heat and let this cool to lukewarm. Meanwhile, suspend the wine yeast in 1/4 cup warm water (not hot water, which will kill the yeast). Add this to the tea when the liquid reaches room temperature. Cover the pot with a heavy cloth for 3 days. During that time, you’ll notice the mix bubbling heartily. Strain the brew through cheesecloth into a glass jug. Cover the bottle top with a balloon to allow for ongoing fermentation. Replace as necessary during the first 3 months of fermentation. Strain again, pouring off only the clear liquid; the dark muck at the bottom of the bottle is simply dead yeast. Put an airtight top on the bottle and store in a cold dark place for 4 to 6 more weeks. Enjoy as desired. Once you open this, however, you should refrigerate it for a longer shelf life and to preserve the flavor. Hint: you can use a picnic cooler. Sip this while eating your favorite comfort food and you’ll be feeling better in no time. If you don’t have time to wait for fermentation, you can use 1 liter of white zinfandel warmed, in which you steep 2 tea bags, the orange and lemon. Consider blessing your blend (see Notes for examples).
Recipe Notes
Magical Symbolism and Uses
Change the base tea so that it reflects your current needs. For example, if you want to look good for a supportive and financially secure partner, use a blend of jasmine and orange tea. To appeal to a friend for help, use lemon tea. Think of the fermentation process as a way of bubbling up positive energy!
Potential Incantation for Personal Use:
“Lift my spirits, with wine so fine
in my hope and humor shine.”
If you are making this for a group you can change the incantation to:
“Lift our spirits, with wine so fine
in all of us let hope and humor shine.
With the harvest and with the fall
let us celebrate one and all!"
